why 220mm - 235mm wide?

Maybe something to do with tyre width

I have some Mk ones on at the moment and they are 220mm (according to my gf's measuring )
I have 205 r888s fitted and the wings are slightly too narrow to sit nicely over the tyre, they fit perfectly with 195 pradas on, so i either get a new set of tyres or wider wings

I have a pair in white gel coat, never fitted but would need rubbed down and painted.
