I want to buy a reversing camera for use in my Skoda Octavia and would like your comments and suggestions please.

As I understanding is that there are wired and wireless ones and that wired ones give better picture quality.

Some cameras have active guide lines which show the predicted car path.

The display can be in the rear view mirror or a separate screen on the car's dash panel.

The price range is from £15 to £500 so what are good value for money ones??

I just use my towbar and the other persons bumper.

SWMBOs car has reversing sensors that beep at you louder and faster the closer you get to an object.
It's prevented reversing into anything so far.
Already fitted by the car manufacturer though.

When I was shopping for a Skoda they were reviewing quite well, with the integration with existing kit being very appealing to me. Picture quality isn't that important (do you need to see whether you're about to run over an ant?) and the guidance lines looked pretty useful. I also particularly like the camera being tucked away from the elements. I've had a few cars with reversing cameras and they're only effective if they don't get rain or road muck on them. I remember a Kia Ceed (I think) that had a camera and I was never able to use it because it seemed to attract dirt.

The only issue is that I was looking at them when I was looking for a new car, which was about 5-6 years ago now, and I didn't experience them first hand as I ended up with a Superb L&K with all the trimmings. But for the money and their integration it would have been top of my list.

For what it's worth I have recently fitted a wireless reversing camera to my Nissan Navara pickup. It's a Solar3A Plus Max Wireless Backup Camera with 7.2" screen from Auto-Vox. The camera/solar charger is secured behind the number plate and the screen is powered off a 12v (fag lighter) socket.

Generally speaking it has performed adequately and made reversing much less reliant on "wait for the tow ball to hit something" approach as the Navara (2005) doesn't even have parking sensors! If you look at auto-vox.com you will see that they offer a range of kit with various options.

Hope this is useful. Incidentally, I trust all is well in Worcester - from where we moved five years ago. Pretty though it can be we are not missing the snow!
