WTD - shim steel

I'm after some bits of shim steel around 0.30mm and 1.0mm thick - anyone have such a thing or know where to get it in small amounts?

Or any suggestions for alternatives...?

I'm looking at making some shims to sit between the rear upright and bearing carrier to adjust the rear toe.

Coke can? Have heard of it being used for shims, though I think its way thinner than that...

Does it have to be steel or can it be aluminium.

If aluminium. Litho printing plates could be used. Popular gauges are .15, .3 and .5

If thats ok u2u me and I will have a word with one of my customers in your area.

Aluminium should not be used in this situation as it can deform and allow the bolts to loosen. You want a really hard steel like spring steel.

Might be best to use shim washers on two of the bolts.

What about steel banding. It comes in various thicknesses and some of it is very hard

You can do it quickly. You can do it cheap. You can do it right. – Pick any two.

Matt - any idea where I can get shim washers round this area...?

I was planning to make a strip about 15mm wide with a Ø10.5 hole each end then pack it inbetween the upright and bearing carrier with the bolts passing through it.

Shim washers would do the job though.

Namrick - not used them before, but others have recomended them so gave them a call.

Shim washers in stock in the sizes needed at £0.15 each, in the post today.

That's good service in my book
