WTD: Cheap tin-top

my wee brother wants to buy his first car

It needs to be cheap to run and insure (he's 22, but 0 no claims )
it also needs to be reliable and in good condition (he's totally useless at fixing them)

and he doesn't care how slow it is

he's got up to £2.5k to spend
anyone got anything like that ?
(in Edinburgh / Lothian / Fife if possible)

1.9 205 gti

good condition £1500 (mine was immaculate for £1400) ignore the hopefuls who are asking for 2k.

insurance through halifax for a 21yo with 1yrs no claims = £650 so maybe £800ish for your brother

so £2300 or less.

oh...and its the best car in the world

I’d say he should look at something cheap and reliable like a Nissan micra with a smaller engine, buy it for a few hundred, insure it on third party only as its not worth spending more than the cars worth on insurance anyway and build up some experience and insurance history

I should have said - I think he's after something a little bigger than a saxo / micra (but he has looked at some)

I think he wants my focus, only with a small engine (the 1.8's a bit thirsty for him)

How about a classic? Plenty of dolomites on ebay for sub £1500 and classic insurance should be well below £1000

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?
