Wanted - sierra column
Sierra column -
old type.
I have bent mine while trying stuff out to make the steering lighter.
What a twit!

ok ...
I have had trouble with self-centring even though there is lots of castor. I also have difficulty taking my foot off the clutch pedal due to space
issues with the sierra wheel.
So in an attempt to solve both issues in one fell swoop I fitted a spherical bearing in place of the standard sierra one and fitted a smaller wheel
using a Mountney boss.
During the course of this procedure I fully fitted the new wheel forgetting to install the horn ring.
Could I get the wheel of again?? No.
I ended up using a pulling hammer on it (which pulls in a straight line so should have been ok???).
Thought everything was fine but on final assembly it is much stiffer than before.
I think I've put a bend in the inner column but can't work out at what stage I did it.

:S cant see quite how that would bend the inner shaft on the column! very strange, i was hoping for some crazy story involving a big hammer, mabye a
blowtorch or similar, couple drops to the floor, dropping a few heavy things on it etc!

I would doubt that you have bent it, if you could bend a column that easily then just about every Sierra made would be driving around with a bent one.
I think it's more likely that you have somehow pulled the inner shaft out to far, and it's fouling on something. If I were you I would
take it of and give it a good check over. HTH Ray

OK, I'll have a look tomorrow.
Is it possible to dismantle the column?
Cheers

You can't actually dismantle the column, but the inner section moves in and out, (not easily), and this is what (possably) is causing the whole
lot to bind up. After removing it you will find that you can turn the inner section within the fixing bracket, and this will tell if it is bent ,
(doubtful), or where it is binding. HTH Ray
