Where to buy a small length of 1" or 7/8" x 1/4" Half Round Feather Edge Steel Bar

Hi,

I need a small length of 1" or 7/8" x approximately 1/4" Half Round Feather Edge Steel Bar (around 600mm which could even be in two 300mm pieces).

So far I've found the material at themetalstore.co.uk in the form of a 3 metre length for £13.87 + £12.25 carriage + VAT which comes out at £31.35. I guess that isn't too bad for 3 metres but I only need 600mm and would probably never use the rest.

As I live in Kent I also tried Parker's at Canterbury thinking I could collect. They wanted £50 for the 600mm length (no doubt minimum order) + carriage at another £50 + VAT which makes it £120 for 600mm of material. I don't know why they didn't just say it was too small an order for them to bother with!.

I've tried shop4steel and metals4U but neither seem to do this size.

Any other suggestions?

John.

B&Q have a selection of small lengths of metal, may have something as its the sort of thing used for railings.

The certainly do flat, rod and tube up to this size.

Because if you had been daft enough to order it they would have made a lot of money for not much work I haven't seen it in steel but I bought some aluminium capping strip in the 1" width from B&Q. I used it for the cockpit sides with countersunk rivets to hold it on.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Thanks for the suggestions but as far as I can see there's nothing like this at B&Q.
