Has the old one gone faulty?
They are exposed and water seeps down the hazard button and corrodes the PCB inn the switch.
When this happens it gives rise to a funny fault, and took me a while to find it, (apart from flattening the battery as well).
I used to squirt a bit of WD40 into the switch and never had the problem again (after changing the switch).
Dont know if this helps.

Geoff

Thanksfor the reply Geoff. I had issues with the indicators and main beam flash, I took apart the stalk last night after deciding that that was the
cause of the problem and, aside from a damaged and corroded PCB, the plastic nugget tthat shorts outthe iindicator pins had snapped/melted. I.E its
definitely broke lol
