WTD: Thermometer
Hello peeps,
I need a thermometer to measure the resistance of the temp sensors on my zetec for the MS conversion.
Advice on best type and where to get one from please.?

measuring resistance with a thermometer?
would suggest a lab suppliers, get a proper one with mercury and a decent scale.

Cant you get a multimeter on it whilst the sender is in a pan of cold water, then boil the water and get a resistance value and do some maths?
Or am I missing something, probably am, drunk far too much tonight !!
Cheers

yeah all you need is a mulitimeter, do the zero (wet ice 0 degrees ) and span (boiling water 100 degrees) everything in between should be linear !

Its not linear - in fact far from it.
Look up ms forums, the zetec sensor should be about 27k at 25c.
My cosworth v6 sensors haves the same calibration.

I used megatherm that needed three values, dipped the sensors in water with ice and measured.
Dipped the sensors in boiling water and measured
mixed the icy cold water in same quantities to the boiling water so ~50degrees and measured, its works fine for my MS system.

Zetec sensors are 27k at 20c , the best way is to change the sensor bias resistor on the MS pcb to match.
I found a near match to the original spec for the water temp and then fitted a thermistor from RS that matched the resistance curve for the air
temp.
The water temp is not as critical as the air temp as the water just controls the warm up enrichments , the important one is the air temp as that
directly controls fuel air ratio.

Cheers Mr. Austin, I understand all the other bits, just need the thermo so I know what to put in the MS!
I do have a multimeter but need a thermo so I know what temp I'm measuring at!
Back to the cans ta....

Or just have a look in a Autodata fuel injection manual , it should give all the information you want without any messing about

Maplin sell loads of different types or buy an electronic cooking thermometer from Sainsbury's --- less than a tenner.
