Used Mig or Where to buy new?

I'm looking for either a good, used MIG or if needs be a new machine.

Clarke 151TE or 160TM would be the sort of new unit although a UK regulator would be no good to me over here.

So does anyone have a used unit they want to sell or,

Where's the best place to buy new in the UK? And before anyone proposes Weldequip he's a splendid chap but does not ship outside the UK which is a shame as I am impressed with his knowledge and speed of response.

Nearly 100 views and no advice?

OK I didn't really expect anyone to be selling a used unit but I'm sure a good few of you have bought welders from different sellers and would have had some feedback to share.....

Or do I just go to Machine Mart?????

Mike, in the absence of any other takers, these are my thoughts;

I'd go for the best welder I could afford and at the top of my list would be Miller, Lincoln and Murex, Migatronic and Cebora. I believe all these have established service networks and spares are readily available. They all produce very fine welders.

I believe the most important part of any MIG welder is the efficiency of the wire feed device. If it is not reliable and consistent, then you will be unable to produce decent results.

I'd personally steer well clear of the shed-shops and try not to be seduced by a low price and claims of amazing power.

I hope this gets the ball rolling.

Is there a MM near Geneva or has your location changed ? Try Weldequip's shop on mig welding forum.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

When I've finished this chassis Mike, I will have all my tools for sale as I wont be building any more cars, for me or anyone else...

And amongst them is a 151te...

Depends how quickly you need one really!

Thanks guys for your advice..

Steve, I need one pretty quick so thanks for the offer but i'm going to end up buying new. I'm sure yours will sell easily. There is apparently always more demand than supply for welders on here.

Pete, I'd be getting the welder shipped over here. That's why, sadly, I can't go to Weldequip.

2cv, Thanks for the pointers on make. I'd love one of the makes you mention but used welders seem to be rarer than hens teeth at the mo and these welders are well outside my budget. You can be sure that the minute I order a new one, several bargains will appear.

Cheers all,

Mike

Mike I'm not sure what your budget is and whether you would come over to the UK to buy one but there is a good selection of the makes I mentioned on Ebay at the moment. This one caught my eye.

Best of luck in your search.
