Wanted!! Steering rack for MK Indy

Anyone got a rack complete with ball joints to fit an MK Indy?

I'm looking on Ebay too. What other Ford racks would be suitable?

Chasis is designed for a Sierra manual rack, but MK narrow the rack by chopping out the middle then sleaving the 2 halfs back together. Mine was done on an exchange basis as part of buying the chasis kit.

I have an unmodified manual Sierra rack available if you want it - drop me a U2U

I have a standard sierra rack shortened by MK for my Indy before I upgraded to a quick rack.

It's the rack only, no casing and no pinion.

Going spare for collection/p&p tokens...

You could then get nick's rack, shorten the body easily and insert the shortened rack easily (shortening the rack is the pain because you need to tap them ends to accept the steering arms - not easily done by hand!)

OK thanks.. If this helps the problem is too much play in a small ball joint that is under the corrugated rubber sleeve. Thats the bit that needs solving. All the rest of the rack and pinion is OK so can I just replace the end bit from that joint? How does it come out?

Also where should I order ball joints for the track rod end at a good price?

The ball joints are part of the steering arm - just un-bolt and get a new one from the factor's. I seem to recall paying about £20 each for mine new.

Whats this cup and ball type joint under the corrugated rubber gater then as that is what it failed the MOT on as it has play. Theres the upright ball joint, then a piece of bar, i think another joint in the rod and then it goes under the rubber where the little dvil ball is moving in and out of the cup.

Sorry if I seem i don't have a clue..... but I don't

The ball joint is integral to the steering arm. If you pull the gaiter back, you'll see the ball joint housing has two flat sides on it.

All you need to do is disconnect the track rod end and undo the ball joint housing with an adjustable spanner.

Get a new steering arm from the motor factor and reverse the procedure to re-fit. Don't forget you will need to set up you toe again - an hour with string and spirit levels and the job's a good 'un.
