Testing a C20XE

Hi folks,
I have a C20XE redtop mounted with a Manta box in a part-built Locost chassis (bought at this stage). I've been told the engine's good but before I go any further thinking I want to run it. Does it make sense to get it going with the standard EFi and distributorless ignition? I don't have an ECU so thinking I'll try to get one from e bay or a scrappy.
Any thoughts/advice much appreciated!

If you do go down the testing and buying an ecu. Beware theres several different ones, and they are not compatible.

I'd just get on with the proper installation and then go from there... Instead of spending money that doesnt need spending.

What installation would you recommend? I'm not too worried about tuning the engine, just after a good strong installation. At the moment I'm not able to spend a lot on it. I understand that the standard EFi is bulky but is it possible to do? Do you know if it's difficult to get a hold of the correct ECU?

I would be looking at either spending the money on a Megajolt and bike carb setup or easier route of twin 45`s and a manifold from YUKSPEED.

If you want to save a bit of cash then have a browse round for an MBE 912 ecu.

Theyre are old now and only worth 40-50 quid or so but most of them will have a good base map for a C20XE(but check that before you buy).

I started with one of them and it ran well with twin DHLA 45`s at about 180bhp with no mods!!

If you want anymore help then give me a U2U, i will be glad to help.

Sorry, just had another thought....

If your completely strapped then go for the dizzy off an old 1.6 Cavalier/Astra along with the coil.

Cheap as chips conversion but a little hard to find.

Beware though you need to make sure the engine is the old version which will accept the drive for the dizzy on the end of the cam.
