welder help..... please.

Good mooming all.

Ive been boring a friends welder for a while now but all im doing is tacking stuff up for when he welds it properly for me.

Ive been using a GAS mig which is clarke 150 which my fabricator mate owns. (he would do the welding on mine)

anywhooo..

would something like this do the job for me and allow me to

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

As im trying to build my car for under £250 im trying to keep costs down for stuff I dont actually need so any advice would be great...

Thanks

Cant comment on the wolfe welder... I do have a Clarke 151EN for sale if that is of any use. Its a gas/no gas welder. Has been a great little machine.

Could do with a new liner and feed roller as the feed can be a bit erratic.

Have the origional manual plus a few spare tips etc.

It looks awfully similar to the welder that I got from Aldi, I believe that Wolf are sometimes rebranded for sale elsewhere. The internals look almost identical.

In terms of how good it is, I've had no problem with mine welding up to 2mm mild steel. It's not cut out on me mid weld (even on quite long welds) so I'm assuming the duty cycle is sufficient for 2mm. It might start to struggle with thicker materials though.

The gas/no gas switch works fine, I've used both although I really wouldn't recommend using no gas. It's nasty!

The one thing I have found on the internet is that the pinch roller that feeds the wire can weaken over time and start to slip. There are ways of fixing it but so far (touch wood) I've not had to do anything with it.

I also had an industrial socket installed in the garage to feed it, one of the 32 amp jobbies running off it's own breaker. The advert says it can run off 230 v single phase, and it does come with a 3 pin plug attached, but from memory it's max current draw is 16 amps. People have run it off standard mains but expect to be resetting the RCD every ten minutes!

If I had the choice I would go for a Clarke or similar 'name' brand as it might be slightly longer lasting. But I'm very happy with the cheaper option.

Any reason you any arty on using your mates?

Having used cheap arc and mig welfare in comparison to a good quality mig, I probably wouldn't bother with a cheap welder again unless it was for none critical jobs both in cosmetic and strength terms.

Firstly i have to go get it which is 120 mile round trip and i bought gas and wire for borrowing it. Mainly the fuel
Costs to collect means I can buy one.

I would only use to tack everything for when he comes over to fully weld stuff as he is a fabricator.

I know it won't be perfect but if I can get eveything tacked up I'll be able to get moving forward again.
