Just exactly how many Men do you want in your tent??? And how comfy do you want them to be?

We bought a 6 berth vis a vis 2 room tent from tesco for 65 quid ish (it was on special) and there is loads of room for me mrs and 2 girls aged 7 & 9

just check how waterproof they are (static head measurement) if its rains more than a light shower you may find the asda tent isn't very waterproof.

From over 52 years of camping experience....

Deduct at least 1 from the number a tent will sleep.
A 2 man tent will just about get two skinny short ass types in it, with very little or no room for any kit.

Trying to get your kit off in a very small space whilst not trying to wave bits of your anatomy in your mates face, is difficult to say the least.

Advice is to buy a 3 man tent as a minimum. I paid £40 for mine.

When it rains, you want to be able to keep away from touching the sides or its starts to leak. Again SIZE COUNTS
Too small a tent, and you touch the walls, and you get a wet head, feet and worse still a wet sleeping bag.
When you get a lot of condensation it will rub off onto your head and feet if the tent is too small.
You need the room to swing your cat around

So get a 2 man tent as a minimum for a single person.
Personally speaking mines a 3 man tent, but then I'm a Bat F'Stard (Why else would I love my Viento )

A blanket underneath is worth two on top.
Better still, an Airbed gives you 3-4" of Insulating air under you, and is comfortable. Cheap ones from Tesco. Dont forget a pump, although someone will probably have one.

get an electric pump for your airbed - 2 minutes noise for a comfortable nights sleep over any small dips / stones / lumps.

Defo agree on the size thing - i usually sleep in a 3 man tent on my own or cuddled up with a g/f. Once tried sleeping 4 in a three man tent ..... we where good mates before we tried, we've never tried since!

Yup, I'm 56, and been doing it a very long time!
all learned from experience.

I have a caravan (as well as 5 different tents), but the Viento is too light to tow it. Plenty powerful enough though

My kids have been camping since they were 18 months old... Start 'em young is what I say!

Vindi_andy - 16/6/09 at 03:33 PM

we used to have to squeeze 3 lads into a 3 berth tent when I was in scouts and it is a squeeze even tho we were all skinny teens.

This is why I went for a 2 room 6 berth 3 people per room plenty space for 2 wouldnt like to try 3 in there

jollygreengiant - 16/6/09 at 04:13 PM

I used one of tesco's 2 man tents at Stoneliegh. I have just gone out and bought another tent to use at Newark. I bought it from Argos, 4 man tent on offer at the mo at £25 with change.

Linky

Had it up in the garden, much better tent than tesco's cheepie.

My little Pro Action tent has been good value for money , cost £20.00 5 or 6 years ago , only expected to use it once

Rod Ends - 16/6/09 at 08:13 PM

big £43.99 tent at Argos

rusty nuts - 16/6/09 at 08:19 PM

Doubt I would get one that size in my car with the rest of my gear!

Thats the problem with a Se7en.
A 3 man tent for one person is a good compromise.
