Yep but does everything look like a genuine Westfield?

skydivepaul - 21/4/10 at 11:07 AM

westfields dont have aluminium side panels.
it has a westfield bonnet, scuttle and windscreen.
rear wings dont look westfield

SE marked on the scuttle is the narrow body type. not sure if they still make these as they were originally for the ford escort donor with rear axle.

looks like modified could mean made from old bits that were laying around?
as always buyer beware

modified chassis??

matt_gsxr - 21/4/10 at 11:28 AM

and the speedo is perfect for the passenger

Yeah, the nose/bonnet/scuttle is narrowbody and older.
Hard to tell what the sides are, but the dont look like westfield. Certainly the rear isnt.

What the chassis, lord only knows.

dhutch - 21/4/10 at 11:45 AM

For ref, this is what the rear of a narrowbod field looks like.

They do detachable rear archs as an option on the widebody but not as far as i know narrow, and even then, it doesnt look like that.

Im not saying its a bad car, or even a bad price, but its not all westfield for sure!

No it looks not much like a westfield as AFAIK (apart from the pre-lit one's) they all have fibreglass side panels.

I've never understood the £12k of receipts thing, I think it's meant to imply you are getting a bargain, but I have a laser printer, how many receipts do you want?

An original locost could be said to be a 'modified westfield' chassis as that's where Mr Champion got his 'inspiration' (allegedly).
That might fit with the SE scuttle.

Wonder what it's called on the V5.

There's an outside possibility it's a pre-lit westfield that's only been finished for a couple of years.

eddie99 - 21/4/10 at 11:48 AM

Looks like a good price and nice bit of kit but not sure whether it is all genuine Westfield. Prob used some bits that are. And maybe a chassis. But who knows......

rayward - 21/4/10 at 11:51 AM

its registered as westfield(sports)

I would think that someone has bought a $hi77er of a Westie SE (or unfinished project) and rebuilt it using Locost parts. Therefore, I'd suggest that the description may be relatively accurate.

Its quite a sensible way of doing things - just ask Hicost Blade.

Its a nice enough looking build.

What I was thinking... !

FFTS - 21/4/10 at 12:05 PM

Maybe a good idea but its advertised as a WESTFIELD. Can anyone spot any Westfield bits apart from the Scuttle panel with SE on it?

With SE front end body work.
- But if it is that, why not say so, nothing to hide.
- Engines a long way back too, which could be the chassis mods.

MikeRJ - 21/4/10 at 12:28 PM

There appears to be no triangulation members on the top of the engine bay (the ones that have a big impact on chassis stiffness!).

The Westy had at least one side triangulated AFAIK?

GaryM - 21/4/10 at 12:37 PM

Is it just me or does the engine look well back in the engine bay?

Not a bad thing but usually that means the tunnel will have to be wider to accomodate the wider part of the bellhousing and in a narrow chassis that doesn't leave a lot of room for feet and legs.

Certainly my narrowbody SE chassis has one.
- On the drivers/intake side onl, but not one on left hand side.

However that might have come out for the engine to go back too.

If it is a westfield chassis, it has been pretty heavily modified IMO...

Not that that's a bad thing, but I think I'd want to give it a good going over and a vigorous drive before I handed over any money...

I also think that it's relatively cheap, but do not think it's a complete bargain etc...

iscmatt - 22/4/10 at 08:09 AM

Don't know if anyone will see this but i emailed the guy asking a few questions and he responded

it was modified for hill climbs, the engine is about 9 inches
further back, because we put ally sides on the car we could not put the rear tub on, so we used other manufactures parts for that, if you are looking for something that looks like its rolled off the westfield showroom, then this is probably not the car for you, if you want a fun fast reliable fun car then this is the one.

cheers
