are you sure it's not opening another window at the bottom of the screen?

that usually catches me out when I'm not quite sober

My U2U does not work, can open it but i cannot send or recieve any messages.

I believe this is usually something to do with popup stoppers - if you have recently installed google or yahoo toolbars or new internet security or something like that could cause it.
