E-bay Puzzle?

Have successfully bid for an E-bay item. Seller indicated that it was to be collected.

Have sent message proposing optional dates for said collection.

No response from seller - absolutely s.f.a.

What should the next move be? Haven't parted with any dosh, yet.

Been in the same position several times myself.

Frustrating, isn't it?

Several questions - how long have you given it since winning the bid?
How long since you wrote to him / her?
Any possible further contact details buried in the advert?
How good is their 'feedback'?
Do you have a bad 'gut feeling'?

Also several plausible reasons for them not replying - could have gone on holiday! - yes, even though theyv'e things 'ending soon' ! - could be a fault with their computer or internet provider ? Might be 'working away' or 'on a course' for several days.

I know it is frustrating, but you have obeyed the golden rule - not paid!

I think it is unlikely to be a scammer, but there are people who do set things up like this - ie. - collection only - in the hope that you think it is above board - so you cough up a deposit etc only to find either a false address or they just go silent on you.

Long reply - but hope this helps, be patient - and contact ebay helpline as a last resort.

Regards and good luck, Steve.

People are a bit absent minded sometimes. It is possible that they set up a standard auction of 10 days or 2 weeks, forgetting that they'll be away.

I'd try and contact them by phone but would leave it 2 weeks from the sale date before raising a non-delivery with eBay. They always seem to find in favour of the buyer so don't worry. It is a pain though as you have to wait for it to be resolved before buying alternatives elsewhere.

did it go for buttons? Sometimes people decide its worth more and go quiet.

You cant force the guy to sell really.

Thanks for the feedback, everybody.

Most of the possible reasons for zero replies, which I had considered as possibilities, were mentioned in your postings.

Sellers contact details were merely postcode; have already consulted Tom-Tom to locate him a little more closely.

Followed your suggestion. Gotta call yesterday evening, and went up to Stockport to collect it today. Seems to be satisfactory, so worthwhile purchase.
