WHAAATT!!!?

That's around £2700 of her majesty's dollars

Better not let my eldest see that, he sold one recently for £1000.

It looks like the Midget is winning at the moment......

not being funny but that's a high asking price for an old with with hardly any information....
i know that old golfs in original mint condition will fetch that kind of money, but the advert would usually have a lof of information and pictures to reflect....

I bought a 5dr late model 16v in dark met blue for £2400 in Essex a few years ago, the HPI valuation was £800! lol It was awesome, 80 odd K, all the options, orig panels, 1/2 leather MJ interior etc

I sold it a year later for £2500, ended the ebay auction early only 2 days in. I shook hands for £2500 then went straight to work for afternoons. Got home to cancel the ebay ad and it was already at £2800 that's with over 7 days left too, bugger..................

During my period of ownership though I also bought a red 3dr 16v for £150 to break for bits! that looked rough though

Haven't followed Golf prices of late, but good clean cars with history (MK1 & 2) were fetching that a few years ago so it doesn't seem unreasonable to me (don't know the SA market obviously).

IMHO they and 205 GTIs amongst others make a worhtwhile little investment if you can look after it and run limited mileage in the summer months. Still eminently practical and cheap to run maintain, particularly as an occasional car.

The mk2s are getting rare as thats the model the kids all want. With out suspension I might add
problem was that vw used sand bags as dead pads for noise..
....water logged ones make the pans rust as well as the heat shield against the firewall/bulk head crud trap.

so the shells are dying faster than you can say boo. This winter will kill a lot as the kids have to take out the plastic liners in the wheel wells to run such big wheels.......

I sold my mk2 5dr 8v GTI last year, it had a long T &T, was tidy & sound both mechanically & bodily but hardly show standard. This made it a cracking car for a VW freak who needed a practical car they wer'nt afraid to use but still be proud to own.
I could'nt shift it at £1100, not even anyone came to view! I knew my location was a killer so I dropped it to £900, the only one to view came from Liverpool (I'm nearly in Scotland) & did'nt haggle, just a had a good look to see it was what he wanted & paid up, it was worth more but no-one else would travel for it!

That's why I sold mine. It was my daily driver and any slip ups with the kids and chocolate covered seats or car park dings and it would turn into a £500 example overnight, so off it went!
