Orange San Francisco
I know this has appeared on various other threads but WOW! got mine a couple of days ago and it has to be one of the mobile phone bargains of the
decade (yes I know it's only 2010 ) Having never unlocked a phone never mind 'flashed a ROM' mine is now unlocked and running
Android 2.2 and for the money it's incredible! It does feel a bit cheap compared to the Touch HD it's replaced but that's about the
only thing I can find to complain about (but for £99........) It's a bit underwhelming with the Orange gubbins on it but once you've got
rid of that.....
If you're after a new (android) phone it's WELL worth a look!

It's just an operating system - some computers have XP, some Vista, Some MAC OS - same for smartphones, some have Windows, some have Android,
some have whatever iphones use

I bought mine a month or two ago, it's even cheaper now !
As a mid-contract "boredom" phone, it's unbeatable
It was only £84 plus a tenner credit this morning, plus £18 cash back from Quidco (plus a cheap watch and a few bits free). Now showing out of stock
at the mo' but it'll probably be back in stock tomorrow.
Link here.
A warning though, the camera is atrocious

Note that the original AMOLED screen which received such praise in the reviews has been replaced with a standard TFT screen in the newer versions. I
was all ready to buy one until I found this out. Screen quality is still pretty good, but the ROMs for the AMOLED version do not work on the TFT
version, so upgrades are rather limited for now.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

If you can move the screen with anything other than your fingertip it's probably a tft screen. I suspect there's a lot of 'I paid a
fortune for my phone/contract so this can't be any good' going on now so add a cr*p filter to a lot of what you see - but this is a
bargain

If the blacks onscreen are really black it's amoled, if you can tell it's backlit (slightly grey) it's tft.
Tbh the tft screen is supposedly excellent, it wouldn't bother me either way.
Both screens are capacitive (work with your fingers rather than a stylus).
Btw if anyone wants the app "aptoid"* (a bit like the official market, only errrr, free) u2u
*Errr, it's actually APKtor, not aptoid, durrrr

given up the ghost.

Unlocking is as easy as inputting your imei number into a website, then changing your sim and inputting a number.
To root, download "universal androot" and click the button.
Easy
As for removing the orange crap, there are ways of removing it without even rooting the phone.
Modaco forums contain all the info you could possibly need.
Aptoid is a program that acts like the android marketplace (where you download and buy apps/software) only instead of connecting to the marketplace it
connects to somewhere else and you can download stuff for free. It allows you to try before you buy

Would one of you Uk guys be kind enough to pick one up for me and send it to me in the Netherlands? This seems like too good a deal to pass up.

Ring Orange, tell them a friend bought one for £69, and a £10 top up.
That's how much I paid for my daughters. Even at £99 it's a superb value.
