Welding practice

I have a little project to practice cutting and welding - a cat enclosure for the misses (her cats, acually!).

This weekend I am up some 25 x 25 x 1.6mm and 25 x 25 x2.5mm scrap and I was considering tacking it together with an old arc welder before finishing it of with a hire mig welder.

Does this sound reasonable?

nothing wrong with tacking with arc and finishing with mig, or the other way round. I know of a couple of people who've mixed techniques.

clean up the welds after arc, of course.. should be fine.
