Bluetooth connection to an old amp
mark chandler - 17/11/12 at 12:00 AM

I have a great Yamaha amp, maybe 10 years old that runs the surround sound etc, what I want to do is connect my IPAD via blue tooth to it so I can listen to music.

Has anyone got any recommendations for BT recievers which support line out?

Cheers chaps

sorry but headphones work best for me

anyway you get plenty of docking stations for them and at least it will be getting charged. I have a small plug in transmitter that lets me send music via radio to my 20 year old car stereo, sound seems fine to me but I'm sure some would claim it was some sort of lower quality that offends them

got a logitech one off ebay the other week, haven't used it much, but very easy to set up, and sounds good too. has both 3.5mm output and RCA ouputs. with power on, press the button on top to put it on discoverable mode, use you tablet to search for it, connect, pair with code 0000 and its done. you will need to press the button on it each time you want to connect though
eBay Item

i was looking for Yamaha's own one for my newer (than yours) yamaha amp, but at over £100 for one that uses the socket on the back, or a spare unused set of RCA connectors, i went with the cheaper option

I use an apple airport express to do this. Wireless music is ace!

Edit- works via wifi though, not Bluetooth

Airport express looks good, liking the optical output but it says it will only work with iTunes, will it also play if I am listening to on line music, YouTube for instance?

Thanks

It will work with youtube etc on your iphone/ipad without issue, from a computer you can use a program called airfoil (not free- there might be others?) to force all output though the airport express. The only problem with this is there is a short delay so it's frustrating to watch videos with (there is a built in buffer over air tunes).

I love mine, wandering around the house changing the music from my phone is great!
