Just installed Linux Mint a branch from Ubuntu with all the non GPL media bits you normally have to ferret around for.

Very nice easy install -- looks great.

I'll try that on my old PIII machine upstairs, it's got Ubuntu on it already and that was a pleasant surprise when it worked with everything on there.

Mint Linux has now been running for a few days and has proved very good stable, hot plugging USB drives and cameras works better than any other 2.6.x core linux I have tried. Hot plugging didn't appear to work at first but this was due to the Gnome desktop hiding new icons below existing icons, turning off " desktop auto align" fixed this.

Also been trying Fedora 6 -- which seems great at first but living with it for a few days shows much the same problems as previous Fedora releases, I have had problems with USB hot plugging and Samba networking. While Yum is still slow and Yum Extender is buggy.

If installing Mint I strongly recommend adding via synaptic Guarddog, Konqeror, Lisa, Samba Kwikdisc and Web,im.
