DVD riping - compressing software needed

Just been lent a very funny short DVD on teddy bear mutilation and death. I want to copy it and hopefully compressed it to MPEG or take stills from it.

Anybody recommend any good (FREE) software?

Well, its MPEG already if its a DVD. When you say DVD do you mean its an actual DVD you can put in a standalone player and watch or its a file (avi.wmv etc) burnt onto a DVD data disc that you read the file from on your pc?

More info/ size/type etc and i'll be able to point you in the right direction

Cheers

Ok - it's just an off the shelf, short (10 min) DVD I wanted to burn to a CD. Seems to be working ok with Nero at the moment. BTW, I don't have a DVD bur, just a CD burner.

In respect of the original disk -
If it's a DVD-5, you can do that direct via Nero. If it's a DVD-9, that's dual layer. You can use a free bit of software called DVD Shrink which will squeeze it onto a single layer disk.

Try DVDX (free download - search on google) This will convert to AVI or MPEG depending what codecs you have installed...

Or DVD Shrink (another freebie...) Will compress dual layer DVDs of any region, and encryption to a single layer region free disc....playable on any normal DVD player...

*Obviously i would not suggest using these programs*...

David
