If you must buy antivirus software I think Kaspersky is one of the better ones.

I don't get on with Norton or Mcaffee.

You can buy Kaspersky off ebay pretty cheaply too.

I tried avast but found the constant pop ups asking me to 'upgrade in return for money' very annoying

Norton is crap!
I use the locost Kasperskey. Brilliant.
Locost version:
1) Get a 30 day free trial and before it runs out........
2) Buy a license off ebay for £5 and upgrade to the full version.
3) You now have Kaspersky for a year for £5 instead of £49.99.
Proper job.

Avira is the most professional by country mile, The free version on flags a single popup up at the start.

The latest paid for Home Premium version truly rocks ---- really good protection from mail viruses and pishing sites.

As an anti virus program the main difference between thee free and paid for version is speed of the update servers, the free version servers are a bit overloaded.

At 19 euros for one PC per year (50 euro for 3) = good value
