First drive and SVA applied for

After an age getting all the wiring complete I am now nearing the finish line. Managed a few hundred yards on a (private!) road. Wow - everyone is right - there isn't another feeling like it. Found it hard to stop smiling ever since. SVA application in 2 weeks ago and questionaire filled in and returned so not long now. Just got the SVA friendly bits to do.

Had to get my mate's nephew in to do the wiring as the injected R1 just lost me. It has taken about 3 months to get sorted because he found it hard to get time due to work commitments. Finished job is well worth the wait though as he has done an excellent job with everything working as it should. Particularly like the little box he has made up in place of the exup servo.

Probably going to take it to Elvington Sat 22nd just to give it a few steady laps to bed things in. Taking the R1 Mini rally car as well to test the new Quaife reverse box and quick rack so might see some of you there. Iwill be the one looking nervous

Man, your kitchen looks like a workshop. How do you get away with it?

Nice motor btw.

Reference to the kitchen units on the wall no doubt. It's actually my mate's garage, known as the toy shop. He lives just down the road from me and my garage is the size of a greenhouse. Mind you, just having plans drawn for my garage which is the next 'build' for me. 8.5m square - should be adequate

How did you get your Rover header so clean?

Could only give it a little blip in 1st and 2nd as it is a short bit of track but from what I could tell I don't think performance will be disappointing

Pat, header tank was a bit of a challenge. Filled it with a strong bleach solution and left in sink overnight. This still left a lot of brown staining in it but where I could get at it this rubbed off very easily. Thought about how to get at the inaccessible bits and put a small amount of water in and a good pour of the rock salt that you put in your salt grinder. Gave this a good shake round and the salt was enough to scour off the stain leaving an as new header. Well chuffed.

That is our little rally weapon Andy, first Mini that Chris at Z Cars ever did. Excellent for kicking sand in the face of some of the Scooby and Cossie drivers on tarmac events.

The Italian quote about rear view mirrors.

Carry on rallying it ! Just had latest bulletin from MSA, they have confirmed that they will not issue log books to any more bike engined rally cars but will not withdraw any log books that have already been issued. As a backup I have several laminated copies of a fax sent by the senior MSA eligibility officer at the time we were building the car which states that he accepts the engine as a production car engine as per K37.1.2 of the blue book.
If you see us at future events pop over and say hello. Sure we will be able to find you a beer!!
