It's a real PITA
Hi all.
I am having a bit of a nightmare with my NC.
I bought it off fleaBay recently and am not sure whether I have done a Boo Boo!
The cone seems to be a strange size, I am building the +442 chassis (which should take the standard nosecone as far as I am aware) but mine seems
rather tight across the top of the nose (LC) and is about 40mm wider than the side rails where the mounts would be!
If I use it as is, then this would mean that the bonnet would also need to start out from the side rails to meet the nosecone.
Any help or advice here would be gratefully received.

could you not cut it down the middle and narrow it? simple an cheap job really, I did a how to somewhere on widening wings that would help
I did think of that, but the trouble is how do I get around the fact that the edges of LC rub?

oh I see what you have done, not sure why you have done that though...
are the side rails not meant to end on the corners of "LC"?
looking at other chassis apparently not...
why not have the corners sticking out past the nose cone and simply use them for mounting the headlights?

Sorry m8. Think I'm being a Numpty! I'm not very good at describing stuff first thing in the morning.
The side rails I refer to are J1 and J2, the top of the nose section not LA, LB.
So the cone rubs on the top rail ends but is too far away from J1 and J2.
Maybe one day I'll learn to read first and answer second! I guess that's my best option, I'll have a rummage around other builds and
see what will look best.

why not take a pic of the offending nose on the chassis so we can see the prob?

I’ve attached a couple of pictures showing the problem I’ve got. Obviously I need to cut out the side of the cone to a more traditional shape, so it
is sitting rather high at the moment anyway.
I’m guessing it’s going to be a case of making it narrow by around 80-90mm then shaping it to fit over the nose section to leave the ends of the LC
member poking out at each side.
If there are any experts regarding working the fibreglass to rejoin feel free to throw any advice you see fit

I'd cut it down the middle and use the "widening cycle wings" technique. I did this with my scuttle to widen it. I discarded it later however and bought an ally one that looked a lot better! So selling it and getting a properly fitting one is I think a worthwhile option.
I think you would be better making it fit the shape of the top rails so your bonnet has good shut lines then add to the nosecone to cover the front
chassis sections that stick out. Easish to do just time consuming to maintain the shape.
