Wiper System
myke pocock - 21/9/09 at 07:19 PM

Now the car is on the road I have bought the ally extrusions to make the screen frame and I need to look at a wiper system. I know that the early Mini system can be used but is there another, maybe cheaper, system from the scrappies that I could us? There is a Mini system on the bay at pres but its up for near on £100 inc carriage. Hardly Locost!!!
Had a brain storming session on names for the car at work the other day. Decided on SID for no real reason at all then got home and it came to me. SID, Seven Inspired Device so Sid it is, that now lives with Baldrick the trials Skoda Estelle and Sophie the JC Midge. SOFT SOD!!!

May be possible to use something like a Nove/Corsa, Golf, Polo wiper system with a bit of work . The Lucas wiper system is easy to use and reliable. SVC may be able to supply a kit of all new parts for not a lot more than the one on ebay ?

Almost anything made by BLMC will have that wiper motor. Lucas unit with metal sleeve containing a spiral wire.

I found that the prices on ebay were ridiculous for complete mini wiper assemblies - not unusual to see a clean example go for £75 - £80, which is daft when you consider that SVC will sell you a brand-new kit for not a huge amount more (around £140, I believe).

I was lucky - I saw an advert for a 'Mini wiper motor', with a picture showing the whole mechanism. I won the auction - and a complete assembly arrived!

I saw a Tuk Tuk parked up the other day and was looking at the wiper system. It had a short wiper blade with a very small electric motor directly behind it. I thought two of those may do the trick when the time comes for me. Anyone know a place for Tuk Tuk spares?

Find a landrover breaker and get on for a dedender or old series(II or III) motor

Should get the whole lot for about £20

Citoen ax makes a good system.
It is a single system, using rod ends i made the unit drive a twin blade setup.
Beauty of an ax system is that it has a smooth system, less wear due to at each end of the flow snapping back.

How would you ensure they stay in sync with each other?

I can confirm that a Corsa/ Nova system works well as long as your under dash wiring is tidy. There are metal bits flailing around under there!
