These people sell chrome paint. Look at the camper van at the bottom of the page. Shiney. Not cheap though at £150 per litre but how easy is it going to be to get a finish like the one in the picture. I've sprayed cellulose and get a fair but of orange peel, but that can be sanded and polished. Am I right in guessing that this will be very difficult to get right?

You can get mirror chrome vinyl for cars, probably cheaper. Specialist firms can fit it for you

Frosts sell rattle can chrome plate effect paint. Never used it, but a lot more economic if you're not going to do large areas.

I've used rattle cans of chrome paint. Works well for relatively shiny but difficult to get the high gloss finish shown and they tell you not to lacquer it so that's not going to help either. Suprisingly good finish though (I used plasitcote chrome finish from B+Q)....

If it's £150 a litre it's come down in price, used to be £230. The finish depends upon how well you have preped what is to be painted. First coat is matte black, then the chrome paint then laquer. Takes about 10 coats to get a good finish. It's 2 pack paint and is a nightmare to apply unless you are a pro painter, which I am not, but I have seen it being used. If your using it on smaller items it may be cheaper to have them chromed.

Yeah but look at the shine in the gloss black before the chrome paint was applied, it’s super shiny. I’ve tried various chrome paints on my r/c planes and they never look anything more than polished aluminium, nowhere close to chrome, plus it’s quite easy to mark, add some lacquer and it goes cloudy and dull.

not quite the same effect, but very similar

I emailed the people yesterday asking a few things and have had an interesting reply.

The chrome paint must be sprayed over a high gloss black base coat. They say if using cellulose black, coat with a clear lacquer and polish to a high shine but the paint must be left for several days as any remaining solvents spoil their paint. They are working on a water based 2 part clear coat / sealer for over the top of the chrome. The chrome itself is a 1 part paint supplied ready to use so a 100ml pot contains 100ml of usable paint. Cheap it is not.
