is this too much sticking out of the bonnet? (latest pics)

Just fitted bonnet and had to cut a considerable amount out of it - plan is to make a cover / bulge for it, but suspect manifold angle is a bit too steep?

dad in photo - cant work computer!

Looks fine to me - lots of nice cold air getting to the carbs for better power

Looks fine to me too.
In the interest of getting a bonnet bulge game going I'll see your protruberance and raise you mine!

I would make a scoop out of ali (unless your fibreglassing skills are up to much) to channel fresh air into the carbs while covering up the sticking out bits.

I assume its not been IVA'd yet .... incase i dont think it'll pass ! Theres only a certain amount that can stick out of the bonnet. My original k&N filter stick out less than that, and i had to remove and put mesh over the top of the carb.

as above, too much protrudes for IVA front projections

how come you can't get little engines under bonnet when i can get a v10 under mine!!!!

now you see it.

now you don't, little bonnet bulge and everything clears,

Not quite a book chassis though is it!.. Helps being in a V con-fig, cross-flow is always going to take up a fair bit of space with sidedraft carbs, but it will be nice and light weight.

the basic chassis is a luego viento and so is only slightly different to a book chassis from what i can tell, but yes the v does help a lot.

If you look in my archive you'll see mine which passed SVA.
However my concern (echoed by the guys at Eurocarb who supply Weber bits) would be what happens if it's hissing down with rain? There is a good chance of the front carb ingesting water - i.e not a good idea.
As a temp. measure I've made a curved shield from ali. with folded edges which is attached by rivets and sealer & sits in front of the carb.
I'm also in the process of making a bulge from glassfibre to cover the carb completely.
I used cardboard covered in tank-tape for the buck, then plaster of paris and scrim for the mould before smoothing and waxing the interior prior to laying up the resin and mat. It's not a perfect way to make a bulge but means you have the shape you need which can then be filled using filler paste, attached to the existing bonnet and painted.
HTH. Cheers, Pewe

PS Other thing to consider apart from water ingestion is if it's an all-year-round car the carbs could well ice up in cold weather. My preference would be for a fully enclosed bulge meaning the carbs draw air from under the bonnet - duct some cooler air from further forward if that's a requirement.

Dan
now run that V10 on side draught webers then check if it will clear the bonnet

rickys2000 - 23/1/10 at 07:25 PM

and the viento is about 4" wider than a locost chassis

loggyboy - 23/1/10 at 10:32 PM

pop somthing like one fo these cut in half over them- even if its just for IVA.

Many thanks for the replys

question now is:

Make a cover out of mesh or ali or fiberglass?

the old boy suggested and a simple ali cover with mesh on end.

as its his car - (with my help of course!) i think a ali cover should do it.

it was backfiring like crazy today - really needs a tune up - think boggy should sort it.

Besides whats been told before and seeing how close to wheel spray your filters will be, I would use cloth covers on top of the filters to aid keeping them longer unclogged a little longer.
But thatīs just me,,,
I am waaay tooo far from your stage.

bj928 are you off your nut a V10 what litre is it and what kind of power is gonna pump out?!

P.S you have to take me out in it when you finish it!
