One of the jobs I'd been putting off was the making and fitting of the rear panel. The panel it self was supplied flat so I set about fitting. I spoke to the factory in the week and they said it takes them about 3 hours with two people. "Thats not too bad" I thought! So started of de-buring the panel from where it had been laser cut.......



This took about an hour as I wanted to make sure all the tabs would fold correctly to create a clean bend. The I slowly bent each tab into the correct angle (I hope!)




I then spent the best part of the next 6 hours carefully folding, measuring, folding, measuring. At this point I was very happy with progress and forgot to take any pics of the panel prior to fitting.

So lined it up and jiggled it around a little, but I have to say, it went on very well. With a bit of fettling here and there and another what seemed like a thousand rivets, it fitted.








I'm well pleased with the finished job, it did take me all day to do, but Im well chuffed with the result. Starting to look more and more like a car!!! Just have to do the arches next

Any way, off out to the garage again, although I dont think I have the energy to do any more rivets, my hands kill me!!

Considering how big the rear panel is, I was a bit nervous. I already ruined my dash board and that was half the size, could not bent it right for the life of me, ended up jumping up and down on it. Going for a fibre glass dash this time!!!

Lol. Been known to throw bits down the garden myself a few times.
Very satisfying when it goes right though.

Suppose it might be a bit wrong to say that's the nicest backend we've seen in a while

BRILLIANT job, what did you use to cut it? i tryed cuting the side panels with a nibbler that goes on the end of drill(f***ing pants)then was lucky, someone gave me a compressor and i bought a shear cutter and it was great but only in straight lines!

I did that job twice...

The first attempt just looked wrong and tatty, so I ripped it off and started again - sounds easy, but I'd used PU sealant when I put the first one on - took ages to strip it all off...

It's a brutal job, but you've done some really good work, and given me some ideas to smarten up mine. Good post; thanks!
