how do they do that - Vinyl Wrap
HowardB - 23/9/11 at 12:56 PM

It was on Telly last night, Thursday 22nd, and showed a brief section of wrapping a Lotus in a Union Flag design. Interesting if you've not seen it done before,..

It took them 6 hours or so to do, no mention of the cost,..

Might be on 5 on demmand or what ever their iplayer is called,..

I think that's the trick Howard (like with most things)... patience!

Sadly, I don't have any (and it's why I love my grinder so much!).

he he it actually does. spent weeks trying to get the old vinyl graphics of the 2nd hand body for mine, tried stanley blades, wd40, hair drier, heat gun and blow torch, and it just wasn't happening.

grinder took them off in seconds skim of filler done

The key is to get the vinyl wrap that has the air release, so you don't have to go around with a pin popping the air that inevitably gets trapped. It's a LOT easier than painting too, but doesn't last as long.

Exige Union Jack wrap on youtube

Steve,

I really like the dragon wrap that Gavin, (Gav-R Designs) did on his MK. It looks stunning. However, He quotes £400 for producing a one-off and applying it.
The chequered flag wrap on many MKs has been reproduced on other kits (MNR), and speaking to the seller of a brand-spanker new one on ebay, he said "he got it done by a mate for 40 quid." Looked good too. Covered the bonnet, part of the sides and even had a flash of flag on the top of one of the grp seats.
(By the way, I've gone for stick shift on my car. About 5 weeks to go I think).
