how to repaint a cb200? getting the tank detail right
blakep82 - 20/1/13 at 01:16 AM

I'm about to start painting a neighbours honda cb200 tank and side panels, has anyone got any good tips on how to mask/mark out the black and white areas on the side ofv the tank accurately for when I paint them on?

I've got some 6mm fine line tape which seems good for the curves, but unsure how to get them to mark out evenly on both sides. Covering the sides in masking tape and cutting out with a knife before sanding and painting? A bit worried I wont get the curves neat though

Anyone doe this before?

What about going to your local sticker maker with a life size photo of what you need. They should be able to make a left and right side decal to apply prior to the clear coat. Use the sticker as a rough guide line to mask off the black area then apply the decal over the masked off area..

make a template, attach to side of tank, draw around, follow line with 6mm,...mirror the other side. good ting is if you're a few mm out, only a hammer head shark could see both sides of the tank at the same time !!!

It doesn't matter if the sides are a mille, or two, out as you never see them both together.

Wish my hand was that steady! I suspect thats how the original was done, not sure I could pull it off though.

This is me though, it would be feet out lol.

I'll start on makeing a template, see how it turns out. Hadnt thought of drawing around it and then masking out. I'd only thought of taping it down to mask it with. Think that ight be the way forward

Would clear laquer take to a vinyl sticker ok? Last time I tried the stckers stood out a long way and looked grim. Can't think of anywhere round here that could make a sticker either

Thank you for all the suggestions

Quite pleased with this side, the others not great... but fixable I think. Just the white and the laquer to go!

The link should work for everyone I think
