Painted body pannels
donut - 26/5/05 at 08:42 AM

Who agrees that (done right) painted body pannels look nicer than the std gel coat colours. I look at some cars that have been painted and they look so much nicer. I know it's not the 'locost' way but i'm sure it could be done on a budget.

Incidently how much would it cost (roughly) to get a set of pannels painted?

I was thinking Gulf oils colours like my mini and yes i know theres a cateringvan in those colours

Hiya

Cobra is out the question cos it's too expensive so at the moment the choice is either a Raw Striker, MK Indy or whatever Martin Keenan comes up with later this year. Apparently its a futuristic 7 type so i may wait to see what it's like.

I painted mine in two pack MG trophy yellow, it cost about 200 quid plus my time. Not the best paint job I've ever seen but looks better than Gel Coat. IMHO.
And before all you tech heads start telling me that I will die from doing this two pack painting myself, I know, I was daft to do it but hey ho, I'm still breathing (just).

Yeah,

Im wondering about what looks best on 7 type vehicles - me and Liam are undecided aswell.

Those gulf colours look amazing done right like your mini with the black strip either side of the orange stripe - but without much bodywork at the front you can lose the effect - http://www.svvs.org/goodw'fs3/Ford%20GT40.jpg these always look great with that colour scheme

Last time I asked for a price guide on this forum I was told to expect about £100 per panel for a professional job. So that works out to:

2 sides, bonnet, and rear panel = around £400

If you want the GRP bits done as well, then add an appropriate amount!

Have you considered powder coating? Side and rear panel was £50 all in and I'm very happy with the finish.

Cheers
