piddy - 2/7/05 at 07:21 PM

I'm thinkinhg of building One of the following.
Mk Indy
Mac1 ZR
luego Velocity
What would you recommend?
What are your thoughts good or bad on any of the above.
Cheers.

I prefer the GTS bodywork to the MK. Its also cheaper i think.

Chassis's are generally all the same. Some would argue the GTS is better, some would argue the MK is better.

GTS do a wide version too.

I would be going for the wider body.
I've also heard that GTS drag their feet when suppling parts.

He's had a few problems recently. But he's sorted them by getting new supplies that actually supply when they should!!!

Build quality on the GTS problem about as good as it comes. Having built one over the weekend, I know

Up to you in the end i suppose. Generally GTS are ok and i can always get hold of Darren when i need too.

I'd recommend MAC#1.

Mark and Colin will really take the time to discuss things with you. Their phone back up is excellent.

I would say visit them all and take a test drive. Don't let costs govern your final decision considering the time and effort you're going to put in.

The only drawback I could see was the 380 mile round trip in my knackered Transit, no stereo, no heaters, a nasty knocking noise coming from the back and the thing started to overheat just outside Sheffield !

I've only experianced a MK (and was very impressed), but I expect they are all a bit swings and round abouts. I would say its best to make your own choice having experianced all of the cars first hand.

Have a look at our build/rebuild diary. Should give you some idea of how easy the MK goes together.

Hard choice i suppose so i would go for a Westfield just to chuck a spanner in the works

I would recomend going to Brands Hatch on september 17th for the Total Kitcar Live show where you will be able to experience all the locost makes at one venue, it saves all the travelling around then. One thing i would say though is that whatever you choose i can be sure of two things.
1, This forum will support and help you every step of the way.
2, The build will be infinately easier than your 2b was!!!

My Mac1 ZR is going together very well indeed. No problems to report. Mark and Colin have been absolute stars in helping me with queries. You can argue slightly higher initial cost but overall there isnt much in it (cost depends on aspirations and detail anyway which is down to the builder).

I started out wanting to spend £3,500, 4K at a push - lol - ive gone well over that now (unrealistic starting price and DD2 etc!!) but will have a lovely car to play with at the end.

Go see at shows, visit factories, then choose. Enjoy the process and try to be patient. This is the most important stage, get it wrong and you will hate the build. Get it right and your enthusiasm will grow through the build.
