Hi - can anybody give me some advice on mounting cycle wings?

I bought my car second-hand (oh, the shame of not building it myself!) with flared arches. I want to change to cycle wings and have purchased the lolocost (Cortina) brackets which mount to the uprights.

However, the brackets will need spacing off the uprights to fit the wheel. Can anybody recommend how best to do this (any tips on material to use etc - was thinking of some short lengths of pipe)?

Also, as I don't have the SVA guide, what's the rule with tyre clearance of the wing? I know that the wings need to extend to the outside of the tyres, but is there a minimum point forwards that the wing has to come around the wheel?

Any advice gratefully received... and relevant photos even more so!

The best way to fit the brackets is as you suggest by using tubular spacers, some people have used studding with locknuts to hold them, but it is not the best way as the studding is likely to fatigue .i used some 20mm alloy bar and machined to length to get correct positioning of the wings. Due to the length of the supports a small difference at the fixing moves the wing a long way so it is a bit trial and error to get right.

Just to confirm that for SVA the front edge of the cycly wing needs to be further forward than the wheel rim (not the tyre).

for spacing, I used some tube that a bolt would fit inside.

Here's a photo, hope it helps.

May be worth reinforcing the flat section as they are prone to breaking , mine lasted about 500 miles and mine aren't the only ones to break at that sort of mileage
