Roughing up/keying GRP for repair

What's best for roughing up/keying the rough underside of GRP so that I can stick new matting to it?

Very course grit - 80 then a quick wipe with meths to degrease. Use adequate precautions Pat... good ventilation etc etc

Pat........acetone will "kill" the wax in the resin so your next layer will bond ok....flap disc or like Mr Hellfire said mega gritty paper.

Are you having a go at repairing those wings then.....shame you are so far away as i could have done that for.

I fancy having a go as I have a full roll of matt and resins etc. left from my Avon.
I'll give you a shout when it all goes wrong though!
Still fancy the idea of making a mould and doing some in clear gel coat and wet lay carbon.

Where are you then?........repairing is the relatively easy bit.....spraying it is the work of someone that knows what they are doing........but i know really good lad who is a dab hand with the prep n spray bit and more than happy to do bits and bobs for "flash cash".. his words not mine.....he is not far from Newprt Pagnell if that helps any?

the paint guys do acetone as well as any boots or lidls

I keep telling you guys - Carb cleaner is basically acetone in a spray can - very convinent

In repairing glass boats I always use an old drill bit about 10mm. Fit in machine and use kind of parallel to surface to rough it up being careful not to go through. I like to expose some of the fibres as this helps when bonding. Soften with a little acetone before laying up. It`s important to prepare properly as polyester resin is not a good adhesive.
