I'm planning a hood and wanted more input into design and build of a hood frame.
Any thoughts ?
I'm planning on using the rollbar as part of the frame, with an extra overhead loop that will slot into the rollbar. Will bring it along to
Walton tomorrow, if I make it.
Think your r/bar has sloping sides though, so this may not work for you...
Bob these any good.
ATB Dan.
Yes dan
Thats basiscally what i am going to do,as geoff has noted my roll bar is a bit tight for the flinstone roof so i may just as well go full hood.
Bob, slightly off thread, I've been thinking of the material to use rather than the frame. The problem most people have is sewing the normal
coverings as they are thick and bulky. There are loads of tent fabrics out there which are light and can be sewn on most machines and are cheap on
Ebay....
If you can get some ali channel to fit over your screen with some glueing and folding this could be used to fix the front. poppers at the back. Sew in
some windows for side screens and make the sidecreen part of the hood and you have a cheap light hood to get you out of trouble if you get caught out
by rain that rolls up into a compact little bundle...all for about £50???
Sounds like I've just decided on my winter project!
Ripstop nylon and different grades of canvas are available and if you don't think they are up to the job you could treat them with Fabsil.
There's also the stuff used to make frame tent and caravan awning windows which rolls up nicely and is uv resistant. You could have a hood
coloured to match your car. Get round the campsites and see if anyone's going out for the day.
. Good idea Zetec, shame I don't want a
roof.
Interesting thoughts re tent material,it would be a good stop gap and get you out of trouble if caught out.
I was really looking for something more permanent for the winter but its got the cogs turning
GeoffT Are you stalking me!!
The hood frame that slots into the rollbar is exactly what I've done!!
First the instruments, now this - what next. You'll be telling meyou're making a boot rack next!!
Marcus
A boot rack, what a brilliant idea!
You could mount it on the rear of the car and use it to dry wet shoes and wellies as you speed along.

Bob,
Don't know if it's any use to you- the mention of tents reminded me.
At Donninngton 2001 there was a chap (don't think he's on here- Locost/Indy with Vauxhall Nova engine). He'd done a hood that used the
fibreglass type, collapsible tent poles as the support poles.
You might be able to blag poles/tent material from returns to the likes of Millets. I know that's where my replacement tent pegs just came from!
HTH,
James

I think i'll stick to the plan and make a proper hood frame
