SGraber is such a tease show us some car porn. Prefferably the full monty (err..a whole shot of the car).

Is that a primer or paint? Primer I am hoping gray would be a disappointment for such a nice project.

dl_peabody, It's a 'plug' i.e the apart to make the negative mould for the real fiberglass part, a few stages to go before the real paint.

Problem with this batch of images is that they are taken with my cell phone because my regular camera is in the shop... The plug surface is actually totally smooth and shiny not splotchy like the photo.

The primer I used is called Laminex and is a Bondo product. It uses a catalyst and becomes incredibly hard. It also goes on thick and does not run or sag. Pretty nice stuff. Expensive tho at $100 gallon.

The project was originally slated just as a personal expression, but as it developed I have received quite a bit of interest in it. I have almost 150,000 unique visitors to my site this year.

Just this past week I made the leap to turn the car into a business by accepting an investor offer to fund completion of the car, marketing and development of production fixtures as well as a building for manufacturing and sales efforts.

To say the least, I am quite excited at the prospects. As long as I can keep my operating overhead low and create a high quality finished product I think it will go well.

There is still a very VERY long road ahead, but the path is now clear.

That is fantastic news Steve. I for one wish you every success with this venture. I have not commented during your development to date but have avidly followed it in awe. Such efforts certainly need rewarding with your opportunities. You certainly sound well clued up and seen to have the foundations for a successful strategy. Lets hope your investor is equally wise and not just a bean counter looking for immediate returns. I would guess you are still looking at 3 - 4 years development before the first turn key order can be accepted - and this is assuming you go full time and take the initial financial hit.


In an ever challenging market i hope you are able to develop some key selling points to fully differentiate your car and set it apart from the others.
