I have noticed that all/most of the cars shown on the forum do not have any shielding on the silencers. In the book it seem's to be an essential for SVA. In the SVA manual I can find no reference to it. Can somebody assist, do I have to fit them or not. (I've said them, as I have one both sides).
No need.
Thanks Pete, had a feeling that it might be "another" book f*** up. Ray.
If you do they are subject to the radius test.
I asked the SVA guy abou this. He said he though it was mad that you can scald yourself on a red hot exhaust but cant cut yourself on a shield for it.

better take mine off; the fewer bits to test, the easier it will be!!!
I fitted one for SVA because it covered the sharp edges around my Lambda sensor boss and silencer mounting bracket.
The edges of the shield were simply rolled over before the guard was shaped to fit around the silencer.
i had to have one for my SVA,covers the silencer and lagging on the down pipe, depends where you go i spose
I've never seen one on a motorbike.
Why would you need one on a car and not on a bike?
I had that conversation when I got stopped by the local fuzz.
If you put one on you're asking for it to be tested, radius etc.
Cheers
Chris
I had no shield for my mot, and as the tester came over to me with the test certificate, limping and swearing under his breath, he said, 'The
f@cking, b@starding thing has passed, and I burned my f@cking leg on the f@cking b@starding exhaust!'
I hastily made a shield for the SVA, as an uninjured SVA tester is a happy SVA tester.
Passed first time without anything picked up, so it must have made a difference
I can't see why there is all this fuss over silencer shields - they don't actually get that hot. The pipe is way hotter and I've never seen a shield on a pipe.
