Pre-Cut ally side panels for book chassis - where from?
ChrisGamlin - 7/2/06 at 02:41 PM

Does anyone know which manufacturers would sell me a pair of pre-cut and folded ally side panels for a book chassis, and ideally an idea of approximate cost?

My current Stuart Taylor panels have been chopped round for a few different manifolds and are generally looking rather tired, so I'd like to renew them but can't be faffed with doing it the manual way. The ST ones are OK but didnt fit the front of my chassis that well, so I'd be interested in the other options available.

Luego locost ones will fit. I think the ali ones are about 120 + vat. Staniless ones are silly money.

I would say Luego as well as most others seem to be fibreglass these days.

Yup Luego....

They're very good as well - mine fitted like a glove :-)

When I was doing my panels, the guys at MK let me use their guillotine and bending brake, they charged £40 for an 8' x 4' ally sheet.
Took me about an hour.

Ive got access to a guillotine and sheet metal bender, both about 6 - 8ft bed so should be enough, but I just didnt fancy doing it TBH

Thanks for the info guys, it would have to be ally if anything, I dont fancy the additional cost of uprating my springs and fitting a turbo to get the power/weight back up

I had seen some pretty poor fitting ST ally panels, but then mine went on spot on. Think it's a bit luck of the draw (as with various bits from ST, btu then they are cheeep!)

I'd just speak to Ian about some more from him to be honest!

Yup I certainly know what you mean, I had my first set powder coated on the inside before fitting them along with my other panels, but when coming to fit them realised that the double fold to hang over the top rail had been folded wrong, at one end it was an inch wide (to go over the inch chassis tube), but the other end it was only 3/4" so I had to bash it flat and re-form it round the chassis rail
