Boot Cover
cerbera - 3/3/06 at 07:22 AM

I am making my boot cover out of marine ply, and I was thinking of covering it with some black fablon.
Does anybody have any other ideas of what to use to cover the ply and where can I buy it from.

woolies trim and other trimming suppliers will sell you vinyl seat covering material by the metre off the roll. This may be ok and will certainly be more durable than fablon. you could also make handbrake and gear lever gaitors from it.

yes mate, as above use vinyl. Fablon is no good for the application. or you could use some ABS sheeting.

I have used carbon effect ABS sheet because it matches the inner panels of my car. Its OK. A bit flexible and not too secure. It looks OK and none of my tools has falen out yet

I started off coving my boot with some ply wood covered in fablon, but have now changed it to black ribbled ABS sheet. Not only is it lighter but its also easier to "open the boot" as it flexes slightly allowing a better grip on the sheet when pulling at the velco that it secures to the boot with.

Agree completely. All my interior panels, boot abd h/b g/lever gaiters are made from it.
