I have now finished my chassis, suspension etc so want to start pulling everything together.
I have a Fireblade engine to pop in the hole but its got years of grime on it.
Whats the best way to clean the Ali engine casing ?
I,m thinking if this is going to be hard work (read tooth brush and polish) I may be better off pouring drain cleaner over it and painting the whole
thing black once thats shifted the grime.
Any thoughts anyone ?

The toughest bit is gonna be where the headers exit. This topic has been covered loads of times. Have you tried a search??

Wire brush and a drill - or angle grinder and wire cup wheel...

I cleaned my pinto up with an angle grinder with a wire wheel and some smaller wheels in an electric drill for those hard to reach places.
On an ali block you would be better using brass wire brushes as they are less harsh, and leave a nice finish as well.

dont you have to paint something on the engine after? i mean, "The Tool" is pretty potent and couldnt the engine parts corrode earlier rather than with all the kak protecting it?
