I'm getting ready to paint the car but need a bit of help getting supplies.

Although I can spray I have only used tins of paint that we knocking around or some cellulose of the shelf from Halfrauds etc.

Going to need to buy some kind of etch primer, base coat and clear for what I have planned.

Do I just go to my local paint shop and ask for 1 pack eth primer, base and clear and is this cellulose or something else?

Could use some advice from a pro as I'm not up to speed with modern paints.

Also, can anyone suggest a supplier in Stoke?

IIRC its quite difficult spraying celulose (dries to quickly) might be better with a 2 pack.

Cue sparying with 2 pack paints at home warning... (I shant, but someone will )

Andy, you should have a local automotive paints supplier who will supply bodyshops in your area (ask one of them if you cant find it in the yellow pages - they should be in the motor factors section). You can ask the guys in there as they are usually very knowledgeable. Most automotive paints are cellulose based AFAIK, certainly all of the ones I have ever bought have been.

Not interested in spraying 2 pack due to health risks.

I learnt to spray using cellulose so I'm happy with that if it's still the way things are done.

Stupid question: what is 1K?

1K is single component. ie no hardener. It dries by the evaporation of solvents.

2k is a 2 component paint with hardener that actually chemically cures

Cellulose drying time is determined by the thinners you use and the temperature. If you are using a laquer finish you want the basecoat that goes with your laquer. Paint colour changes when a laquer is applied over it to give it a shine whereas cellulose is usually cut and waxed to achieve the finish. 1k acrylic is commercial paint where I buy mine and is used on lorries and vans to tart them up, it doesn't last as long as cellulose or 2k but is cheap.
