Hi,
What sort of paint have people used to paint their engine block?
Cheers
yellow smoothrite for me, just the job
We have used Smoothrite, hammerite and now Ronseal metal paint - doesn't have such a heavy smell and B and Q have been selling it off cheap.
All with good results - decent wire brush on drill, plenty of Jizer and a couple of coats - have a look at our pics we must have painted about 8 or 9
engines in last couple of years
I used Tetrosyl engine paint. Nice stuff, dries in about 5 minutes (even the brush on stuff). Gives a nice finish and available in loads of colours.
IIRC its about £5 a pint at my local vehicle paints place.

PJ1 do a heat dispersant paint for motorcycle engines, thier other paint ive used before is pretty tough stuff...might be worth a look. I'll be
trying it out in the next couple of weeks on my enduro bike engine.....should be a good destructive test
the paint companies want to make money out of you by selling hight temp paint.
but if you thhink about it, how hot will hour engine get? it is cooled by the water that should not in theroy go much above 90 degrees - and
that is fine for mamerite and simular.
the secret is through cleaning of the block.
Clean the block well with white spirit and just use a tough paint.
I use grey floor paint, have done 8 engines (I think, maybe more!) over a few years and it resists heat etc fine, but more importantly it also resists
stone chips very well as well!
Looks smart too, can't stand gaudy engine colours!
