Could anyone recomend a supplier for a plastic fuel tank (standard location) that they were happy with for my indi?

Mines not an Indy but ive had no problems with the Mac#1 plastic fuel tank.

is that tank plastic welded or rotationally moulded? also what size is it? (sorry to hijack the thread)

Car Builder Solutions sell them.

Thanks,

I’m not familiar with that make, is Mac the manufacturer? Do you remember how much you paid for it?

Cheers.

PS - Any particular reason you want a plastic one?

the car builder solutions one is too long to fit in an indy. cbs one is 810mm and width between the stays on an indy are 790mm.

Out of interest... why do you want plastic and not an ali one?

Just curious!

Cheers,

If only my mate still lived in the UK - he did fuel systems for a living.

How thick is the plastic on these tanks?

For production cars the bottom has to be 5mm (i think) thick.

I think plastic is prefered as it will bend more before it ruptures.

MK did plastic tanks for a while - most of them leaked I think

Tek Tanks are very good. Been to their workshop, and they are the dog's danglies. However, they cost a fortune for one off's. It might be worth a call to them, as a Locost tank should be simple enough to make.

MikeR - 29/11/06 at 11:33 PM

i believe the problem with the MK tanks was to do with the plastic welding rod they used. They bought the right one but the wrong one was sent - hence problems.

No idea how true it is, just what i remember hearing.

Thanks for all the help. I should manage now. As for a previous question about why a plastic tank. Just think where it is, in a soft spot right at the back. I'll rather have a flexable petrol tank for there...

Marcus - 30/11/06 at 09:22 AM

I have an early plastic tank, made by the same bloke that did MKs and - Surprise surprise - it doesn't leak!
He made lots of good tanks before his supplier sent the wrong filler rods, completely screwing up his small business!

Aye, I'm sure one offs cost the earth. Their standard range are very good value though if one could be made to fit.
