Any issues or problems with powder coating aluminium panels?

Cheers,
David

Had my alu panels powdercoated in the colour normaly used for wheels (silvery plus 2 coats see through protective coat). Am really happy with the result. Even the floorpannels are still relatively clear of damage and I don't clean my shoes or anything.

One thing that can be an issue is that alu panels tend to bend due to the head applied. Nothing sharp but on the bigger panels it bends quite strongly. One floor panel had to be pushed at least 20cm back.

Yes, check that the powder coaters actually know how to powder coar ally. I don't think there are many that don't know the difference but in the bad old days ally could end up getting baked at too high a temperature fsking it up.

Other than that, no probs.

you can powder coat aluminium (and steel) with a wood grain finish (used to work at a company make aluminium portal frames and had a test done, looks good)

IrvineD had his done black - have to say it looked nice. my only concern would be getting gravel rash on the side panels.

But considering caterham paint their cars it can't be that bad.
