Morning All
I'm struggling to find at a realistic price unanodised aluminium mesh/grille material to incorporate into air vents. I know you can buy screw on
grilles but I've made the surrounds and I just need the mesh to drop in and weld. It is available on Ebay with huge carriage costs.
Any help here would be gratefully appreciated.
Thank you in advance
John
I bought mine in the local boy racer shop - about £12.

Thank you David, I'll try our local one.
Best wishes
John
It is worth thinking about using stainless mesh instead - I find that the ally stuff tends to look very doggy after a few months.
Hi Raz, you are right, stainless would be better and certainly more durable but I need to be able to weld the mesh to the aluminium surround so I
really have no choice unfortunately. i'm going to have the assembly powder coated in matt black to hopefully that should help.
Best wishes
John
your are after some mesh? There are 2 types of stuff that go under this description, wovern wire mesh and the expanded metal type where short cuts
are made in the metal and it is then pulled to make the holes - trip to B&Q will show you what I am on about.
In my opionon, you want stainless steel woven wire. There are at least 2 UK companies that manufacture it, got the details, but unfortunalely they
want to sell it in metre square pieces.
One of them will sell msaller peices if you know who to ask. If you are still interested, I'll dig out the info if I can find it.
You'll need to know the wire diameter and no. of wires per unit length.
Also get down to shops that sell cooking sieves and that round mesh thing you put over your bacon to stop it spitting - it may be what you want for
cheap price.

Yes but for the reasons I gave to Raz, it has to be non anodised aluminium because I have to weld it to aluminium.
Thank you for the B & Q tip, that's another place I can try.
Thank you all for your help on this one.

Have you considered getting a punch (or drilling) and making a mesh from thicker ali sheet
that may be eaier to weld? + you can make it so has solid edge. quote
ok. I;d be interested to see you weld the mesh
Sounds like a challenge to me!!

should you wish to accept .......
I'm committed (perhaps I should be!!) to aluminium and I've found a supplier of round hole and diamond hole material so the moment of truth
is nearing. Didn't ask if it is anodised. If it is, then I really shall have problems.
Thank you for your interest. I'll keep you posted, honest I will.
