I have got hold of a set of old 13" Capri Laser wheels for my Locost racer. They're a bit of a mess so I plan on going at them with the wire
brush on the drill to get the old crud off and then spraying with wheel silver. I would like to apply some sort of heat resistant lacquer and was
wondering if anyone knew of such a thijng available in an aerosol?
Thanks
Hi Simon,
I believe most normal car paint does have to comply with a certain amount of heat resistance testing, due to engine fires and the like - I know that
once a fire gets going the paint doesn't stand a chance, but I was told the above when I worked with a few painters a few years ago, and had no
reason to doubt them?!?
Cheers,
Steve.
I have always found that spraying wheels was only ever a very temporary fix.
Sand blasting and powder coating is a much better bet.
Cheers
Mark
I would agree, but since it is for his locost racer, then I am sure that a couple of decent coats of silver and couple of lacquer would be plenty good
enough???
to do a real thorough job if you do use spray tins of paint, then you need 2-3 of colour and 1-2 of lacquer.

how would your wheel bearings look if the wheels got so hot it burnt the paint?

Powdercoat would be a bit overkill for a racer, something cheap and cheerful that will last a season is what I am looking for. Halfords do wheel silver spray paint but not spray lacquer. It needs to be aerosol as I dont want to buy compressors and such.
Simon - Halfords used to do a car paint Spray Lacquer!
It used to be above the colours next to the primer and used to be in there slightly larger tins???

Powdercoat would be cheaper. Their wheel silver is about £8 a can. I buy p!ss cans from a local shop for £1.80 and clear lacquer for £1.40.
