Hi Chaps,
just recently joined the site, i am building a velocity. This maybee a stupid question ( iam a noobie).
Why cant i use the sieraa sterring rack from my donor?

Because the kit is designed to take the escort steering rack.
these kits here are pretty much all just an evolution of the Ron champion Locost which was based on the Mk2 Escort.
The escort steering rack is readily available both new and reconditioned from many places at a very reasonable price, much cheaper in fact than a Sierra rack. Plus the Escort rack comes in various ratios, don't know if the Sierra one does or not.
Having said that, their is no reason at all why you couldn't use the Sierra rack if you really wanted to but you will need to modify the chassis.
Cheers.

The Sierra rack can be used on some kits, but it's far too long as standard, it has to be cut down to a) fit inside the chassis, and b) stop it giving horrendous bump steer problems.

I used a Sierra rack on mine, but it's been cut down by about a foot
