I am thinking of spraying our car with cans, reasoning:
- I've used cans before with good results
- Can't really afford a compressor and spraygun
- don't know anything about using a spraygun and it scares me 
Anyone know where to get cheap spraycans in bulk? Must be somewhere better than halfords.
Was thinking it might be nice to paint the diff the same as the bodywork..
Look for a local auto paint supplier.
I know of one in Harold Wood (ENE of London) that I'll be going to fairly soon, 'cos they'll make up aerosol cans with paint that
matches a sample.
Bit far out for you, though.
What is REALLY peeing me off at the moment is that local paint suppliers will no longer supply to non-professionals, quoting H&S regulations.

It is probably worth keeping an eye out at any of the Kit/classic shows. I bought some high build primer in cans at about £1 per tin from Newark
show.

you will go thro masses of spray cans....work it out first, it might be the expensive option!

yeah, I did some rough mentals based on The Book and guessed it'd be about 150 quid.
a lot cheaper than compressor, gun and paint, and while I would like a compressor and various spanky air tools, if I'm serious I'm not
likely to get enough use out of one to make it economical.
MikeRJ, do those guys do spray cans? I couldn't see them listed on the site..

It might be worth considering having it sprayed at a non franchised bodyshop.
I'm going to do all the preparation on my bodywork then take it to a friend of a friend who runs a garage/bodyshop and have him spray it.
£24/hour plus paint.

Id like to get mine sprayed professionally too.
What puts me off is that I want to fit all my wings and stuff with body piping. I dont want that sprayed.
So, I will have to send the basic car and about 16 bits seperatly. Assemble afterwards.
Also, all the etch priming and grp priming is further work and I recon thats gonna just stack up the cost.
When I spoke 8 years ago to shops about getting the metro I was working on done, most wanted to do all the prep work too.......

I do a lot of spraying of car bits.... will be doing it all myself. But it does help that i have a compressor, etc.
Good paint shops will sell you spray cans that they make up to match a colour you want.
Otherwise it's about £16 for 1/2 litre of metallic 2pack paint, plus thinners,etc. Probably need 1.5 - 2 litres of paint i guess.

Why not assemble it without the piping and then dismantle it and put it in after. Just use a couple of bolts to hold the bits on. I have seen cars
that have had parts sprayed before fitting and the paint can look different if sprayed from different angles usually on the sides when a door has been
laid flat and fitted after.

Hmmm good sprayer should hang the door up... so it's hanging the same as it would on the car.... so the angle is the same.
