As per title, anyone with experience of por-15, how well does it last, application - brush or spray gun.
I'm refinishing the underside of the MG and want body colour, but some protection, will be applied on a mixture of new and previously painted
panels.
Cheers.
Pete.
It's hardcore. I'm not on the road yet but after bashing some sharp edged panels into my chassis a good few times, accidently ofcourse, the
POR15 'chassis coat black' top coat chipped off but the POR15 rust preventative paint (grey stuff) underneath has no damage at all.
I would say if I didn't leave so long between undercoating and applying the chassis coat black then it would be 'as one' and not chip
at all.
It's all about good prep.
It says on the packaging, "don't get it on your hands, only time will remove it"
I can vouch for that.
Other than that I've used it to protect exposed underbody on a similar restoration, and I've every confidence in it.

Top stuff - I used it for my roll bar.
A few things to remember - it doesn't stick well to shiny or smooth steel - ideally it should be painted over a surface that used to be a bit
rusty but then wire-brushed. Alternatively, use their Metal Ready preparation to get the surface ready - it cleans off any rust, etches the surface
and leaves a zinc phosphate coating. It ends up feeling like very fine emery paper.
Also, it's no good as a top coat on anything that'll be exposed to sunshine - it doesn't fall off, but it will discolour. I lightly
rubbed mine down and sprayed it with Plastikote. The top coat has chipped off in a few places, but the POR-15 still remains.
Mine was brushed on - when you put on a coat it looks all lumpy and streaky, but it dries rapidly to a smooth surface.
Not cheap, especially if you use the Metal Ready as well, but it does do what it says on the tin.
